![]() What is a blog?Short for weblog, a blog is an online journal that is organized by chronological order. It is a web page that can be updated instantly by the user, and followers can respond with their comments just as quickly. In my searches I've found some that seem to be nothing more than one person's self indulgent ramblings about their days to their friends, while others are venues for political rants op/ed style. Then there are some that are a source of community where bloggers can unite over a common interest. I like what Henry Jenkins says about bloggers in his article, "Blog This," for Technology Review, "Bloggers are turning the hunting and gathering, sampling and critiquing the rest of us do online into an extreme sport. We surf the Web; these guys snowboard it. Bloggers are the minutemen of the digital revolution." James Wolcott addresses the addictive blogging trend in "Blog Nation," Business 2.0 May 2002 Issue. He heads up the article with the Q&A: "Are weblogs the blinking neurons of an emerging, chatterbox superbrain? Or are these proliferating online diaries merely podiums for bush-league blowhards? Truth be told, they're a bit of both - and that's precisely what makes them so damn addictive."
